A time to say thanks

Volunteers Week 1st to 7th June

Volunteers Week takes place 1-7 June every year. It’s a chance to recognise the fantastic contribution volunteers make to our communities and say thank you.

Volunteers’ Week is supported and celebrated by small grassroots organisations as well as larger, household-name charities, who together run hundreds of activities across the UK. These activities showcase and celebrate volunteers and the contribution volunteering makes in our communities.

Volunteers’ Week 2021 is a time to say thanks. It goes without saying that volunteers have played a key role in the pandemic response. During an exceptionally difficult year, people from all walks of life around the UK have taken the time to volunteer and make a huge difference to their communities – just as they do every year. This is a time for us to come together and thank all volunteers for their invaluable contribution.

At DASH we owe a debt of gratitude to the volunteers who have carried on helping us through the pandemic, from helping with fund raising campaigns, assisting us with promoting our cause through social media, helping with the improvement of our website and a range of other helpful activities all of which have had to be carried out remotely.

Two of our student volunteers from Durham University continued volunteering from their home countries when they were unable to return to England after their holidays due to the lock down. Tamzin Williams was volunteering from Vietnam helping us with social media promotion, and Olivia McCune was busy helping us to improve our marketing materials from her home in southern California. Several other volunteers have continued to support us from their homes here in England.

Our volunteers adjusted brilliantly to helping remotely, staying in touch with us and each other via e mail, WhatsApp, social media and Zoom. We are very grateful for their continued support and commitment.

A warm thank you goes out to our other volunteers who have not been able to support us during the pandemic.

We very much hope that our accredited volunteering programme will continue to develop and we look forward to welcoming new volunteers to our amazing team.
